TESTIMONIALS

My search for a guitar sound I had dubbed the ‘Huge and Exquisite’ had been ongoing for years before I discovered Leo. Our connection was immediate and effortless. I took pains to describe exactly the voice I wanted, and Leo expressed confidence he could create it, so I gave him free rein and let myself be guided by his build choices. The process was a pleasure and the results were spectacular. Extraordinary craftsmanship and perfect playability aside, the sound of my Buendia is endlessly fascinating, revealing new delights every time I pick it up. It’s truly an Exceptional instrument, unlike any other I’ve played, and ‘Huge and Exquisite’ indeed.”

The first time I played one of Leo’s guitars, it brought tears to my eyes.  I remember clearly, it was a fiddleback Mahogany 00 that Leo had just finished for a client.  It seemed to me to be the pinnacle of what a guitar should be, and it was not a fluke.  The German Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood OM that Leo eventually built for me is at least as good as that 00.  As I told Leo’s mentor Ervin Somogyi, it is a masterpiece and I feel privileged to own it.  I am just now fully understanding this guitar, and have so much appreciation for what Leo is pursuing.  The guitar has a softness to it unlike any other guitar I have played, but without losing any clarity or complexity, and it has power too.  Perfect bass.  Perfect balance.  Nobility.  What a combination.  Leo is destined for greatness.

I wanted to build my dream guitar and had no idea where to begin. I was in Oakland and had met with a few boutique builders but what they offered and what I envisioned didn’t seem a good fit. I heard about an “up and coming builder” from one of the local boutique shops in the East Bay area and I gave him a call. That builder’s name was Leo Buendia. In a short time, I knew I had met the man who was going to help bring my vision to life.

During my first visit, Leo asked me to play to assess my playing style. I have a very light touch when I play and so he recommended something that would project the voice. He spent an exorbitant amount of time helping me select the wood and the model that would complement my playing style. I made many trips to his studio never once was made to feel like I was imposing. Leo’s council and communication were top notches throughout the entire process.

When the build time came Leo really began to shine. Every part of the design process was carefully planned and executed together. He sent me multiple drawings of appointments and made suggestions on what would look best. I was even offered the opportunity to go and listen to Leo voice the guitar which was nothing short of an amazing experience.

In closing, I consider my meeting Leo those years ago serendipitous. I walked away with my dream guitar and it was brought to light by someone I now consider a friend. It was by far and away the best experience I could have imagined. Bravo, Leo. Bravo and many thanks from a very satisfied customer.

Leo Buendia is one of the finest artisans of guitars and one of the nicest gentlemen I’ve ever met.  Walking the journey of creating an instrument with him is one of the very special experiences of my life.

Leo’s guitars have an incredible esthetic and his creative artistry is unique to him.  The detail of his work is impeccable and sophisticated.  Later when I was able to meet Leo, I was impressed with his story, his dedication to the craft, and ultimately, the tone in his instruments.

I commissioned a “Tree” mahogany guitar. He selected the finest set I’ve ever laid eyes on, paired it with an Adirondack top and the guitar is simply mesmerizing.  From the hand chipped-carved cedar rosette to the blooming and orchestral tone, this guitar surpassed all my expectations.  It inspires me to create new songs, and it has introduced me to tones I didn’t even know were possible in a guitar.

To anyone considering a Buendia guitar, I’d encourage you to trust Leo to create an instrument that will simply inspire you to play new songs, to play better, and to play often.  He is a great communicator and you feel his desire to understand his clients and their desires.  In a very collaborative way, he will update you often, consult with you, and advise you.

The guitar fits my hands, the wood feels alive as it resonates against my body, and the sensational tone is like a spa to my ears. He’s become a master of his craft and a true friend.”

I am the proud owner of a Leo Buendia OM Guitar which is without a doubt one of the finest instruments you will ever see or hear. I have had the great pleasure and honor to play many guitars from many different builders over the years and I must say that this guitar is among the finest guitars I have ever had the pleasure of playing. It is simply a joy to play and make music with.

Everything from the initial concept to the design, materials, and craftsmanship is exquisite. Leo’s attention to detail is without comparison and his execution is flawless.

Among the instruments I have the pleasure to have in my toolkit, this is the most comfortable guitar to play and one of the most versatile guitars I have in terms of variety of tones I can produce and the different styles of music that I am able to play with it.

It has been great fun to play this guitar every day and hear it open up as it has evolved from being a brand new instrument into a mature guitar capable of a full range of colors and sounds. I am sure it will continue to get even better as time goes on.

An integral part of the experience of having this guitar built is Leo Buendia the man. Leo is a wonderful, caring, and generous person. He is one go the finest human beings you will ever meet. Leo took the time to get to know my music, my playing style, and my approach to music. From there he developed in his mind what elements to incorporate into a guitar that would enhance and compliment my playing style, my compositions, and musical concepts.

I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who is interested in playing a guitar of the highest quality that they consider working with Leo Buendia to create their own uniquely personal and exquisite instrument.

Play Video

I wanted an instrument that offers more than a fine tone. I’ve been seeking a handcrafted, hand voiced guitar that allows me to feel the notes vibrating in my chest, lap, and fingers as I play, a sensitive guitar that motivates, and inspires my playing… I found all of this in the first Buendia guitar I played at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival, and soon after I custom ordered my own personal guitar with Leo… I couldn’t be happier with my Brazilian/German OM, every time I crack open the case to play I’m stimulated on all levels… It’s time to start my 2nd build…!

Thank you, Leo!
